Will Larter left this review about The Whittling House
Formerly the Saddle Hotel, the building has the name Osbourne House, but the present reinvention as the Whittling House has a restaurant extension in a more plebian building to the left. The public bar is to the right. It has slightly rough floorboards, a chimney piece in rough timber, and a bar counter with a front painted blue, with a plain wooden top possibly the only decent piece of wood in the room. Just one hand pump with an ok Alnwick Amber at a stonking £3.40 for a half. For those who blench at that, there's Theakstons Best on keg, which is likely to be the same or more (I didn't ask).
