The Marquis of Granby is an 18th century coaching inn located in the centre of Hessle. The public bar is found in the left hand side where there is a pool table, plasma screens and a free standing jukebox. I spent most of the evening in the banquette lined right hand lounge bar where there are more plasma screens for airing Sky Sports. At the rear of the pub is a large extension full of tables and chairs and a large plasma screen. Out the back is a paved area with a few picnic tables and a car park.
The usual keg suspects were all available from the bar that also supports three hand pumps. During my visit on Wednesday evening last week the Timothy Taylor’s landlord was off, but Greene King’s IPA and Wells’ Bombardier were available. The real ale is £1.95 a pint on Tuesdays. Cheap pub grub is available and there are different meal deals throughout the week. The presence of a children’s menu indicated that little ones are welcome.
On Mondays the aforementioned pool table is free from 20:00 and there is a general knowledge quiz on Wednesdays. On Thursdays a music quiz compliments karaoke and there are live bands on Saturdays. Strangely there is a disco from 15:00 every Sunday for those that are in the mood after a roast lunch.
I liked the actual pub, but I wasn’t as enamoured by the clientele or staff so I do not plan to return any time soon.

Large pub in village centre. It has a fairly comfortable saloon bar, a public bar mainly given over to pool, and what was once the yard at the rear roofed over to provide a not-unpleasant eating area. Beers seemed in fair order and draught offerings were Black Sheep, Landlord and EPA at time of visit. We may have been unlucky but, despite the heavy food trade, lunch was a disaster, with a wait of over 1hr for barely warm food. Get that sorted and would rate higher.

This pub seems to have lost the Marquis from its name as i could only see The Granby when i photographed it,there are two rooms with the bar area in between these there were three handpumps but none of these were working so i had the choice of Stones or Tetley keg beers it was very busy with older people on a saturday afternoon probably because the pub next door has turned into an indian restaurant.
