Formerly The Feathers, this pub changed its name to the current moniker circa 1997 (can you guess why?). Located on the A40, the former trunk road into London before the advent of the M40, this a squat L-shaper inside with a wooden entrance-facing bar and more than a hint of front room about its trappings (local news on TV to boot). This offers B&B accommodation and basic pub grub, along with a Sunday carvery located in an annex to the right of the main building. Ale is limited to a 20-litre 'mini-keg' of Loose Cannon (£3.80 a pint) as well as an extensive range of bottled national ales. Landlady Sheila is from the old school and I enjoyed a decent chat with her, so a down-the-middle score of 5 is as much for her efforts than anything.
