Another Brakspear charge located in the drive-through village of Middle Assendon, this whitewashed building is set back from the road and partially hidden by a hedge. It's a two-barred affair with a small 'snug'-type room entered through a door which faces you on entry with a large, open fireplace, and larger L-shaped room entered via a door to the left. Low, dark beams, red carpet are the main features internally (as well as a home-cooking smell). An A-board outside proclaims 'Open for Lunch & Supper' the wording of which will elate the well-heeled but it's not pretentious at all here, and the impression is of an unspoilt country pub with old school licensing hours (Landlord Curly has been a mainstay here for many a year), however, the ale range was limited to Brakspear Bitter x 2, and a guest ale would have given this an extra notch.
