A pleasant country pub in a wonderful rural location, off the main drag but close enough to be accessible. The building is Georgian, and it’s set in a very nice location with spectacular views over the neighbouring countryside. There is a gravel car park, leading to the lower garden which is lawned and has wooden tables and benches. Above this lower garden area is a paved patio which has more seating and a barbecue; it is from here that the best views are to be had. Inside, there is a pleasant L-shaped bar which adjoins a more modern restaurant area, which seems a bit out of place. The staff were very welcoming, the other customers were mainly elderly, and the food was very good, though not the cheapest. Only on ale on, Bath Gem, which wasn’t in the best condition, sadly. Let down very slightly by the beer quality, but I’d be happy to give it another try.
