A wonderful 18th Century village pub. It is off the beaten track, reached down a narrow country lane. There is a pebble car park at the back, then a terraced paved garden and outside eating area. From the back you walk through two small snugs to get to the bar. It’s basic, welcoming and warm, the décor basic and rural. The landlady and barmaid made a point of chatting to us, and the locals were sociable. Three handpumps on the bar, one was clipped Otter but had just run dry, the other 2 served Doombar, which was in perfect condition; the landlady was very proud of her ale standards. I’d definitely be happy to come back, perhaps including on a country crawl.
