Solid redbrick building which has been extended and modernised inside but in a fairly sympathetic manner, retaining a number of old features. Home of the Mill Green brewery and five of their brews were available across a range of styles. All those I tried were in very good condition. In addition there were three well-chosen guests (Adnams Bitter, Crouch Vale Brewers Gold and Harviestoun Bitter & Twisted). Many of the ales were stillaged, so even more impressive. Also three real ciders on, two of which were from Castlings Heath which I discovered is also on-site! The more traditional areas of the pub have exposed brick, wood beams and quarry tiled flooring. Items of note included an upright piano, darts and bar billiards. An impressive selection of beermats covering the walls and ceiling was underway and it doesn’t look like it’ll be long before full coverage. There was a highly impressive rear smoking area, one of the swankiest I’ve seen. Food is offered. The pub own a field in which camping is available – ideal for a summer session. There is a big ‘green’ ethos in all aspects of the pub and brewery, so well done them for successfully putting their ideas into practice. I really enjoyed it here and would wholeheartedly recommend it. More than just a box-ticker and it gets top marks from me.
