Demolished summer 2020.
(March 2018)Basic locals' pub with pool table, sports TVs etc in one large dingy room. Claims to have London Price and Doom Bar on handpump but not available at time of visit.

A carpeted roughly L-shaped room, beamed ceiling, light green panelled walls, mostly regular seating apart from a pair of well worn sofas. A few framed local prints on the walls make a forlorn attempt to break up the area into something of interest, there are darts, pool and table football on offer, all distributed randomly around leaving no quiet areas. Two TVs , one on showing the tennis. Outside there is a small decked area with a couple of tables which were occupied by one maybe two sweary family groups with young kids in tow; across the car park is another riverside garden but it is scruffy and unkempt.
Three handpumps, one reversed with GK Abbot, one unclipped and one serving up Old Speckled Hen in shocking condition. Glad I ordered a half, one sip and I walked out. Very poor.

A large pub with a chequered recent history. New landlord has started to make changes for the better, has got some beer on (sadly all Greene King but you've got to start somewhere I suppose – at least he’s tried XX Mild) and is worth a visit now. The beer garden is huge (if rather unkempt) and could be a top summer destination as it runs alongside the River Colne. The issue here is atmosphere – it never really has any, except when the local kids used to come in to smoke weed and fight a while back…
There's plenty of scope here to turn this place into a top, top venue for the area. Can it be done?
