Will Larter left this review about The George

Described on the pub's website as The Only Back Street Pub In Castleton, and (with the exception of the extravagant capital letters), I think I agree. In a tourist honeypot like this every pub is a restaurant and hotel, but this is just the George. Still does food and accommodation, though. The small central bar faces both ways, with three hand pumps to the left and two to the right. The pub is still owned by Charles Wells, with just one of their new Brewpoint brewery's beers, and no longer Youngs or Bombardier. A very good Black Sheep Best though (NBSS 4) and the service and welcome were excellent too. A pity about one customer's argumentative dog, who yapped at anything on four legs, and didn't understand the instruction "not in here" - is there a dog anywhere who would? Luckily we were just leaving anyway.

Cosy pub - closest to Peveril Castle. Multi roomed around a central bar.

Fire.

Black Sheep in great condition.

There's a lot of choice in Castleton and the competition is maintaining high standards.

The George is a nice looking Pub just off the main road it is signed as a Charles Wells house which i found unusual in north Derbyshire. Its quite comfortable inside i had Cottage Flying Scotsman the other beer was Youngs bitter, not a bad pub to have a few in an afternoon.
