Craft beers are heavily advertised outside the front of the Royal London, but just a standard and premium keg range were available alongside the mainstream Brixton Lager during a recent early Thursday evening visit. The central serving counter runs across the rear wall where it faces a highly polished and sparsely furnished laminate area that is bookended to the left and right by seating areas that both house pool tables. The televisions throughout were supplying the background music via a modern music channel, not my cup of tea at all. The service was polite, but I wasn’t surprised to find myself as the only customer. An anonymous weekend bar for the local student population.

Another Stonegate offering in the ground floor of the eponymous insurance company's former offices. This one is clearly aimed at the local student market, trying to be a 'happening' sort of place with lots of arty décor and furnishings, set off with black ceilings and trim. At the back is a pool room with white tiled walls, plus odd extras like a punchball. Phone charging points are liberally sprinkled throughout and personal game consoles are available. Alongside the range of craft beers were three handpumps serving two ales from Goffs and Doom Bar in good condition.

Not the best and its a Stonegate pub. A sort of J-shaped inside it has the usual menu clutter on the tables. As for the beer it has 3 handpumps on the bar and, as a change of pace, 2 of them were ciders and only one was real ale. There are worse and there are much better places.

Soup Dragon left this review about Royal London

The former corner offices of the Royal London Insurance Society, which were converted. The pub and eatery is a part of the Scream chain and occupies part of the ground floor. It is a beautiful building, with columns and moulded stone, although the pub element consists mainly of large windows broken by rusticated stone.

The interior is one long room that foollows the shape of the building around in a sort of L-shape, with the serving bar facing you as you go in. The decor is a mix of red, white, white painted brick and a clay colour on the walls with a grey ceiling and wood floor in general. There is an area with condemed sofas and comfy chairs on a carpet bit, another with high stools, then down a step into what is a more diningy bit. There is a side area with pool tables. The food is cheap, but i didn't try it. Interest is supplied by the air-ducting, patches of damp, carvings on the tables that have game boards on them, the lollipop machine and the TVs knocking out some charty music channel. There is a large pull down screen too. The service was slow and the clientele a mix of students and those that wished they were.

Beer; well, all tap stuff. The three handpulls were as redundant as News of the World journalist. The did have Peroni, which i had.

A sad fate for a lovely building. My experience here conjured up thoughts of Robert Falcon Scott's immortal line from his polar diary - 'Great God! This is an awful place'.

Large studenty drinking barn with TVs, quiz machines and fruit machines all over the place. Large array of lager pumps selling nothing of any interest whatsoever except possibly the Frulli Strawberry beer if you like that sort of thing, I don't. Can't think of any reason for me to ever visit this place again. It's pretty poor really.
