Soup Dragon left this review about The Royal Oak
A detached 60s styled pub, with a little more charater than a lot of generic 60s buildings. Mainly in undressed brick, but has some red and white weather-board a steep pitched roof and a dormer window.
The interior has two rooms, but the lounge was in darkness at my visit so just got to see the bar room. The serving bar faces you on entry. The room is a straight room, in red and white, with white ceiling and patterned carpet, with a small tiled fireplace and has a dart board and pool table at opposite ends of the room. There is a mix of booth seating and tables. There was no music and a TV, showing general BBC programmes. There is an eclectic mix of old photos, Black Country adverts and such like on the walls - so something of interest. The service was friendly and the clientele a fair few locals, that also said hello.
Beer; no real ale, all keg. Sadly, there were taps for both Highgate and Chestnut MILD, neither which were on, so i just had basic bitter shandy.
I felt comfortable here, it was just frustrating that there was no real ale, or even keg MILD, which would mean i wouldn't go back personally, but not because of the place - just a lack of beer to my taste. Shame really.
