Chequer Mead Community Arts Centre houses a theatre, studio, meeting rooms and the Apron café bar that is located towards the rear of the building past the theatre’s reception. The serving counter up the right-hand wall doesn’t support draught, so with only bottles being available I decided to have a latte that was served by the friendly team on duty. The seating is open plan and at the rear are patio windows that look onto a square enclosed garden with a lawn that is bordered by paving and patio furniture. There was some background music playing by the likes of Fleetwood Mac, but there were no other distractions, except for maybe the odd small child. I wouldn’t go here just for a beer, but I did find it very relaxing and not too cafeteria like meaning I would visit again for another coffee if passing.
