A large Victorian village pub in a quiet, picturesque village, easy to get to from the A38. There is plenty of parking at the front, a tidy garden with a large wooden pergola at the side and more garden at the rear, all very well kept and pleasant. Inside, the two main bar areas have been conjoined by a wide corridor, in which the bar servery sits, to form a key-shape. The front bar is a knock-through, with the chimney breast in the centre, now open both sides, and original wooden flooring. The other end is more of a dining room, slightly raised, square, with a tiled floor and opens out onto the rear garden. Dogs are welcomed with a bowl of water and treats. Food is home-cooked, with a few quirks on the menu such as ostrich and zebra, though I’m guessing these aren’t sourced locally. The landlady was friendly and chatty, the other customers seemed fairly civilised. Three ales on, Doombar plus two from Exmoor, Ale and Gold. The ales were in excellent condition. I’d be very happy to come back here anytime.

Fantastic village pub in beautiful location just north of Taunton.
The food is all homemade (yes, all!) and is fantastically reasonably priced.
Just go there!
