Visited due to the dearth of real ale pubs. Typical Spoons, but the service was friendly and the real ales (I tried three: Belhaven 80/-, Vale Black Beauty and Isle of Skye Black) were all on good form. Happy stop off.

A sizeable Wetherspoons with an hotel attached. The pub section is divided down the middle with the long counter and high seating on the right, low and banquette seating to the left. Usual 5+5 hand pulls, Abbot and Doombar on both sets with Jaipur and other more local beers on the other pulls. Standard UK kegs in between and around them with Tennents predominant, one from Williams Bros and both Guinness and Murpheys. Silent screens and machines as usual, the decor is a mix of arty pictures and local interest/history stuff. Toilets upstairs of course.

A large functional 'spoons with a seperate hotel entrance,you enter into a long selection of high tables with the bar midway on the right side.To the left beyond the dividing wall is the area for dining style tables,with a front snug below a large exterior plate glass window,while towards the rear and some large banquettes in blue.Despite the strong tourist nature of the city,the ale pricing here is modest and CAMRA tokens are only taken on Thursday- Sundays when dynamic pricing puts up the stickers price a bit.We used it every day for breakfast and for at least one ale per day during our three day stay.
The ale selection will always have the Trip of Doom but the guests tend to be either Highland brews or decent English real ales from respected brewers so generally you will get a better range of ale options than in virtually any other pub in Inverness hence the 2026 GBG entry is more than justified.
Over our trip we sampled pints of Thornbridge Jaipur (NBSS 3.5,NBSS 3 and NBSS 3.5 ) and Cairngorm Highland IPA (NBSS 3.5 and 4 ) on sussesive days.I would certainly return.

A typically spacious Wetherspoon's establishment with bouncers on the door for our Friday evening visit.
It was the usual bland Wetherspoon's interior with its normal clientele for a weekend evening.
Greene King Abbot & Sharp's Doom Bar were available, as you'd expect. Caledonian Deuchars IPA is also a regular beer. Guests were Elgood's Greyhound & Blackberry Porter, Daleside Old Legover & Adnams Old Ale. In addition, there was also a real cider, which seems quite rare for Scottish pubs - Weston's Old Rosie.
I used a CAMRA voucher to order a pint of the Blackberry Porter and despite only paying £1.49 for the pint, soon wish I hadn't. The sour taste was a little offputting and I couldn't work out whether the beer was genuinely sour or whether it was off. I concluded it was the latter, but still can't be 100% certain.
You know what to expect from a Wetherspoon's - bland interior, a noisy atmosphere, cheap drinks, Abbot, Doom Bar, cheap food. All of those boxes can be ticked here.

As noted below although this is one of the JDW Hotels the bar is a fairly typical long rectangular room with a low ceiling that is rather gloomy and has the bar on the right. Due to the vagaries of Scottish Weather (continuous torrential rain) I got here a lot later than planned and so had a few hours rather than a brief stop before catching the next train North. It was a Wednesday afternoon and I didn't have any undue problems with the place.
The bar has ten hand pumps which had one available soon, the Scottish JDW Trio Of Doom, London Pride, Vale Gravitas, Orkney Northern Light & Dragonhead, Adnam's New Realm APA and Windswept Wolf. I tried the two Orkney beers (£2.19), the Adnam's APA (£2.49) and the Windswept Wolf (£2.79). All were excellent and there was no problem with the food I ordered.
Apart from the dreary gloomy room I thought this was a decent JDW.

A long and dark interior, with only the odd bit of light. Unusually for JDW, there are bits of modern art adorning the walls and a sculpture made of metal (based on Medieval helmets, apparently) can be seen. Overall standards were also from the Dark Ages, with uncleared tables, missing honey from Mrs Quinno's (chipped) fruit bowl breakfast and a general air of grubbiness. Sunday morning meant a mixed bag in terms of ale availability, my Tring was in good form at keast. Overall, not one of the chain's better outlets on this showing.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The King's Highway (JD Wetherspoon)
Although now a 'spoons, this hotel still performs its original function. However, there is nothing much of interest remaining within the large, mostly opened-out bar. Fair selection of real ales from the two banks of five handpumps, with a few local and regional beers including Three Sisters from Orkney & Atlas (£2.19). Dull, and the uncleared tables hardly helped to give a good impression...

I only called in for a quick half but it seemed a dark and rather depressing sort of place. It perhaps wasn't helped by the exterior being clad in scafolding, perhaps they are brightening it up.

Previously The Cummings Hotel, this pub now represents all the very worst traits of JDW. The single large bar was dirty, and the tabletops were sticky. Combined with an unpleasant, pervasive stale smell, this meant we didn't eat here, a shame as (much as I hate to admit it) JDW's food has generally improved a lot over the last couple of years and it looked OK on other customers' plates. The lone barman was slow, unhelpful and didn't know much about the beers he sold. There was an element of discussion over the use of CAMRA vouchers. Four ales on, non of which was well kept or very enjoyable (I shan't embarrass the breweries concerned). The clientele were from the bottom end of the normal JDW population. Even with the CAMRA discount this isn't somewhere to which I shall rush back - once every five years is quite enough.
