The Poste of Stone occupies a former Post Office building - from the outside this is fairly apparent from the style of the building, but no real sign of its former use is evident on the inside. It is fairly open plan but with three distinct sections / levels. There are a few booths but otherwise an unexciting if functional layout. There is a fire to the rear section, and outdoor seating available to the rear. Sash windows throughout.
Cask ales £2.78 a pint as of August 2025.
Credit where it's due to a super helpful member of staff when I managed to order to the wrong table using the app!
Gents are upstairs, they are clean but with CCTV cameras, which may be offputting to those of a shy disposition.

As the name suggest a former post office with large wall to ceiling windows all around.The entrance area is standard 'spoons ,up a level there are two very discrete seating booths to the right side before the long bar opposite which are the high tables then another step up to a square back section again with two seating booths to the right side,dining style tables elsewhere.The high windows are the only feature otherwise bog standard 'spoons .
At the bar the trio of Doom namely Ruddles Best ,Abbot and Doom Bar were double clipped leaving guests as Black Sheep Bitter,Uttoxeter American Pale and Thornbridge Jaipur IPA,which saved the trip NBSS 3.5.
I was surprised by the lack of guest options and can see no reason to return when the Titanic options in town are fantastic.

Poste of Stone is a long Wetherspoons housed in old Post Office building. There’s seating around the front entrance before steps that lead up to the bar area where the long bar counter runs up the right-hand wall facing high tables up the centre and normal tables and chairs under the windows along the left-hand wall. More steps at the rear lead up to a large open plan seating area that felt more geared towards dining overspill. In amongst the standard and premium keg are two banks of five hand pumps that were drawing the usual three plus Orkney Brewery’s Boulder Beach, Lough Gill Brewing’s Andersons and Nethergate’s White Stout. The Boulder Beach wasn’t my favourite beer of the day. The service was polite, but I don’t envisage a return visit.

Housed in the former Post Office building, this two 'spoons is actually twice as large as it initially appears, with a second seating / dining located up a few steps at the back beyond the main bar area. Little else different to note, but it appears to be well run (with clean tables, etc.). I found eight different beers (being a mixture of usual suspects and rarer offerings) available from the two banks of five handpumps, with my Uttoxeter Final Furlongs (£2.15) being in good shape.

This town centre Wetherspooons is set in the former Post Office – a long, narrow building which has been subdivided into a couple of distinctly different areas. The lower level entrance sees you into a carpeted seating area with lots of tub chairs under some nice semi circular windows around the porch. Steps lead up to the main bar area, passing a pleasant mural on the way, where the servery can be found running along the right hand wall. The bar has a long backlit counter, broken midway down by a large pillar. Opposite there is a carpeted space with a row of high tables and stools giving way to bench and standard seating options on the left hand side. There is some partitioning of sorts in the form of unusual metal pillars, but otherwise it’s a very bland space with only a TV on the far wall showing muted live rugby to grab your attention. Steps lead up again to a rear room which is much wider than the rest of the pub and has turquoise walls and loads of standard seating in what is essentially a featureless space. For me, the pub’s highlight is the carpet, which incorporates repeated images of a postbox and postage stamp in a nice nod to the building’s former use. When a carpet is the highlight, you know you’re scraping the barrel. In my experience, ‘Spoons tend to be pretty busy up and down the country on Sunday afternoons (even now they’ve scrapped their Sunday lunches), but this place was very quiet, perhaps a reflection of the many superior pubs around town.
There are ten handpulls on the bar and these were split between three ‘Spoons regulars and four guest ales, with the final three out of action. I tried the locally brewed Lymestone Nose to the Grindstone (£2.50) which was in fairly good shape and served to me by one of the friendly bar staff team. I didn’t have very long here so I drank my pint at the bar, during which time I didn’t see a single customer order one of the ales.
I didn’t really think much of this place which looked quite promising from the outside but failed to deliver anything but a bland, corporate pub experience within (something I rarely accuse Wetherspoons of). I can only agree with Aqualung’s assessment that Stone has some excellent pubs that make visiting a national chain a bit of a waste of time.

We caught this on a good day as the ale choice was decent enough. We went for the Slaters Haka and Wibblers Brewery Summertime, both were in good nick and costing £2.50 a pint.
This a long and narrow Spoons with plenty of sunlight pouring in along the left hand side bank of Georgian windows.

This is a large old GPO building as noted below. It is rectangular with a small area as you enter leading into the bar area and then a further room at the back up some steps. It wasn't that busy on my Saturday afternoon visit but the back room seemed to have a crowd in.
The bar has two sets of five hand pumps which had a disappointing selection with two available soon, the two GK beers and Doom Bore doubled up leaving just Hanlon's Goodwill and White Horse Rudolph. Two were probably available soon because the two Xmas beers were being discounted at £1.95. I went for the Goodwill which was in very good nick. The standard guest ale price here is £2.45 which means that the differential between a pint here and the four "normal" pubs visited in Stone is less than a quid and less than 50p compared to the Lymestone Borehole and possibly others. In London suburbs the differential can be as much as two quid but is invariably over a quid. JDW have unprecedentedly increased their prices twice in the last quarter of 2015.
As far as this one goes it has a poor beer choice and isn't that much cheaper than elsewhere so unless the main reason to come here is to eat there seems little point as all four other Stone pubs tried were better than this.

As bland as it gets for a 'spoons. A dismal choice of cask ales on with 10 pumps dispensing (at the time) Abbot, Pedigree, Ruddles, London Pride and Available Soon. Must do better.

The Poste of Stone is a largish Wetherspoons that is housed in a former post office building.
Once inside there was a small area near the entrance which had bucket chairs and tables,the main bar is up a few steps,this room is oblong shaped with the bar running down the right side,there were tall tables and chairs near the bar and a row of normal tables and chairs on the left side.
There is a larger room to the rear which is up a few more steps,this room had lots of normal tables and chairs and was favoured by diners.
There were two banks of five pumps on the bar,i had a drink of Titanic Iceburg which was a very nice well kept beer,the other beers i noted were Coach House Christmas Stocking,Elland Celebrated Porter,O Hanlons Bar Humbug,plus Spoons regulars Abbot and Ruddles best.
The pub was heaving at 10.45 in the morning with almost all tables in use,but the staff were doing a decent job keeping up with orders.
I was happy enough having a drink in here.

Fairly large and relatively modern Wetherspoons, in former Post Office. Pretty well everything you might expect, although the beer range was slightly above average. Solid.
