* CAMRA heritage listing so off I stopped. The wood panelled back room is lovely with superb fitted seating and a fine fireplace overlooked by a large mirror (the front area, by contrast, is a grey painted basic mess). Sweeney-style questioning for taking photos, luckily the old skool barmaid creaked over to diffuse the situation "he's one of them, we'll get in the papers!" Felt like I was the most sober person in attendance and I was told, with pride, that this is the 8th most haunted pub in UK "we've had the telly in here!" Further questioning elicited that there's been fires, hangings and all sorts on the site and apparently they only employ female staff because the last male on the books refused to go in the cellar because of the spooks. The only haunting on my visit was the quality of the Guinness, which had departed life long ago. One for the heritage hunters or Danny Robins, there’s no other reason to stop off.

The Corporation Arms is a very basic pub that was busy compared to its peers during a recent Wednesday evening visit. The interior consists of two small bars to the left and right, both of which have televisions for showing Sky Sports which was muted. In the right-hand side is a dartboard, but I steered clear of the area due to a couple of very drunk youngsters who were arguing with the barmaid. Live music was advertised for weekends, but there were no specific dates or times so this may be an old general sign. A standard keg range is available, and the lone hand pump was unused. Food is not available. The service was friendly, but I thought this place was a bit of a roughhouse so will not be returning.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Corporation Arms
There can't be many places in Britain where the pubs open so early as along Freeman Street, probably due to the fishing dock history and the market? Anyway, even were it not for the heritage inventory snug, this is probably the best looking of the generally run-down establishments. That said, appearances deceive initially once inside because there is nothing of interest in the main bar, although the side lounge (with its own small counter) is well-presented and quite appealing in an understated way. However, to the wood-panelled room at the back, which is really something to behold (although seemingly not used much as there are no tables by the bench seats). Still no real ale, sadly, so made do with a Worthington's (£2.40).

Having recently acquired Camra's book of Yorkshire's real heritage pubs (which includes North Lincolnshire) I was keen to see this pub's back smoke room, "one of the best historic interiors in the region". And indeed it is an impressive room (see photos). What a pity that there's no real ale here and that the pub's customers all congregate in the modern and unimpressive front bar. With Tina Turner and Jimi Hendrix on the juke box, I was settling in with my half of Worthington Creamflow, until Voodoo Child ended half way through (obviously not to someone's taste) whereupon I drank up and left.

The Corporation Arms is a largish corner pub that used to be a Stones tied house.
The pub now has Bass signs outside but dont know what beers this pub sells has it was not open when i took photo.
