Another visit and I wasn't disappointed. After a disappointing visit to the nearby Wig & Quill, our spirits were soon lifted here. Excellent Badger First Gold and Tanglefoot were on offer. The menu is simpler than it once was, but the food was good and not overpriced. A lovely barmaid and other friendly staff made this a most enjoyable lunchtime session.

If ever a pub didn’t live up to its name it is probably this. Parts date back to the 12th Century and despite internal alterations and add ons, the New Inn is very much Olde Worlde material.

The cosy front bar is fairly small with low beamed ceilings and it is hard to conceive from here that the pub rambles on through a series of adjoining rooms through what were presumably 2 or 3 separate smaller buildings. Wonky walls, exposed brickwork and open fires abound and one room in particular ressembles more of a gentleman’s Club with plush leather armchairs, Chesterfields and dark paneled walls. This also appears to be the favoured room for rugby enthusiasts with a couple of signed shirts on display and a few sporting pictures on the wall. At the rear is an extremely attractive and spacious garden with fine views of the nearby Cathdral spire.

Being part of the Hall & Woodhouse group, the beers are all from Badger with the 3 available during my visit beuing Best, Fursty Ferrett and Tanglefoot. Prices are quite steep but it’s probably worth the extra for the surroundings and if you’re lucky, Poppy the pub cat will also provide some free entertainment.

The pub does have touristy appeal but there are enough cubby holes and hidden corners to secrete yourself away and all things considered, I would find it hard to have a wander around Salisbury without including the New Inn on my itinerary.

A good H&W pub which has more of a 'country pub' feel to it. Excellent Badger beers on offer (Fursty Ferret, Tanglefoot, Best) which does alternate with others from the Blandford brewery. Very good food and a lovely atmosphere.

Retaining its medieval features and consequent quaintness, this pub has recently immproved both in its beer quality and service, although it remains expensive compared to other nearby pubs. It is still a Badger pub which has 3 ales on. I had a pint of Best which was in excellent condition and most enjoyable. The clientele consists mainly of older tourists and a few CAMRA diehards, though there is a clique of regulars who are always happy to provide a supercilious grunt when addressed. Worth including on a crawl, and worth stopping for lunch, but it wouldn't be my first choice for an evening venue while there are so many other decent pubs within a few minutes' walk.
