A lively estate pub which does a good job of serving its community, hosting regular events including a weekly meat raffle. It used to be called The Dolphin. There is a small car park at the back, though in practice few people need to drive here. The single large bar has a games area at one end and a children’s play area at the other. There is a pool table, dart board and jukebox, and there are plenty of sports trophies on display. It was fairly civilised when we went in, and the landlord was friendly enough, but there was an underlying hint of tension that suggested this would not be a good place for strangers to be later on when it got lively. The food was basic pub grub, well priced, and it’s popular with families. A handpump on the bar had a Doombar clip on it, but there was none available, nor was there any bottled ale, so Thatchers, John Smiths and lager were the choices. I doubt I shall return in a hurry.
