My first visit for about 20 years. I have happy memories of this pub and I am glad to say it has remained a rock pub. No ale so I had a bottle of Newcastle for old times sake!

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Costermongers
Basement rock bar, housed under one of central Birmingham's least distinguished shopping precincts, but thankfully more spacious inside that initial appearances suggest. The main bar area has plenty of space on non-event nights, with a pool table in use when I visited, and there is also a separate side seating area located up a couple of steps. No real ale, unfortunately, and - whilst there were a couple of keg bitters available - I went for the ABK Hell (£4.10) which went down well on a humid summer evening.

A place that has re-opened after a long period of closure. I visited this place a few times in the 80s, and it was a rock pub back then. One of several places in Brum which is under ground level. The pub remains a rock/metal pub - as shown by the black and red decor, with copious related pictures and painted skelly bones and skulls etc (especially the one as you descend to the pub). The room is as it was shape wise - long and thin, with pool one end and pinball the other, with a near segregated side area with bench seats and a chessboard floor. The music - well, guess. Service was friendly, clientele of the nature of the pub. Beer: no real ale, but some decent keg stuff - I had the German lager (Fels?) which was decent. Loved going back after all this time and would pop in again for a swifty - though I prefer the ale.

Much maligned in recent times due to changes made by the previous management, Costers has suffered at the hands of rumourmongers, but this venue is currently run by yet another musician, (Andy), who cares deeply about how Costers is perceived, and through his hard work the pub is regaining its title of the longest running alternative/metal pub in Birmingham.
Once you've come down the stairs into Costers, you'll find a venue geared towards music, particularly metal - come and have a look at the paintings, they're worth seeing! Bands have played here in the past and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
