Run by Hydes, Alfreds is certainly more bar than pub with a floor to ceiling windowed frontage that sits behind awning covered café seating on decking that runs on the passing pavement for the full length of the building. Music piped outside to the decking becomes louder inside the open plan high ceilinged and wood floored rectangular interior. Tables with a mix of chairs and benches run across the front windows and a long banquette runs up the left-hand wall. High tables run across the centre from left to right and up the right-hand wall is another banquette that faces high tables. The bar counter found across the rear wall to the right was being run by a polite young barmaid. Premium keg and Beavertown’s Neck Oil were available alongside two hand pumps that were drawing Hydes 1863 and Don’t Panic. After ordering a pint of 1863 I did start to panic as I surveyed the ten or so older locals to find them all on lager, but my fears were unfounded as it was a decent pint. This probably isn’t somewhere I’d go out of my way to revisit, but as a bar it is above par.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Mandarina
Modern bar / restaurant in quite a large space that has one subdivision to create a notional side dining area. Also has a fair number of tables out on slightly raised decking areas. Slightly surprisingly, two real ales are offered: Hydes' Lowry and Hopster Blonde from Ralf + Alfred (£3.55).

Nice big bar, tidy place and well kept. One of the more pricier bars in Macclesfield but not unreasonable. Young but pleasant crowd.

Named after the Mandarina silk moth which gave Macc it's fame. Large open plan place with comfortable seating around the outside and dining table and chairs elsewhere. The walls are "distressed" and have quite a few pictures of said moth on the walls. It now serves a couple of Hydes beers which is unusual around here. My pint was in decent nick although I wouldn't consider Hydes to be a favourite brewery of mine. Nowhere near as good as the nearby RedWillow, but it's a decent enough place in its own right these days. We'd call in again.
