Situated in a rather uninspiring location and well described below, modern though unremarkable in its size, this sits below my luxury accommodation of choice, so perhaps best described as a Travelspoon, chosen for an overnight stay after an OMD/Heaven 17 recital at the nearby Museum Gardens last Thursday.
This is a ‘spoons so needs little further description as I suspect that much PuGgery has ended here, the corridors redolent of crawls past, with my photo giving a glimpse of the interior with customers typically studenty.
There’s the usual ‘spoons liquid fare, my Titanic Plum Porter ordered via the app whilst sitting overlooking the river – The Bill on the Foss? – on good form, £3.09 a pint, served by an unjustifiably enthusiastic waiter.
York has many fantastic pubs and this isn’t one of them, but if you want a pint with a midnight licence immediately beneath your boudoir, this is the city’s best option. Note too that unlike one of our reviewers, you won't see the River Ouse without Bionic vision. ;-)

Modern spoons with a Travelodge above, on a busy corner of the inner ring road. It has a nicely calm interior with the usual Spoons touches, although a well placed Gents for a change. The big selling point is an outdoor terrace at the back overlooking the River Foss. Some 5 or 6 guest ales, with a preponderance of Rudgate on this visit.

Visited this JDW bar last month and chose Goose Eye over & Stout, and Saltaire Cascade, both of which were fine.

not the most inspiring place in York, either building or location, but inside it’s pleasant enough. good beer range at good value and affable service. It’s not going to blow anyone away but as a functional Spoons it fits the bill.

As noted below this Spoons takes up the ground floor of a Travelodge. It's a roughly L shaped room that is modern and has the usual furnishings. It was busy but not hopelessly so on my early Thursday afternoon visit. A bonus is the toilets being at the same level.
The bar has ten hand pumps which had one available soon, Doom Bore, a cider, a Bombardier beer, Caledonian Seasoned Traveller IPA, Rudgate Chocolate Stout, Dark Star Hophead, Naylor's Toffee Mild, Loddon Bamboozle and Conwy California. I went for the Rudgate Stout (£2.65) which was excellent. The standard guest ale price here was £2.49 and the Curry Club was £7.75 which is about a quid or more above average. The beer price was cheaper than I expected for a tourist trap like York.
I thought this one was OK, a good beer choice and the one chosen in excellent nick. It's above average as far as I'm concerned.

The larger of the two York weatherpersons but my least favorite of the two. This is connected to the travel lodge next door and is far to tall and spacious to give any character or comfort, it feels like a museum. there is a full range of spoons ales including the regulars, doomabr, ruddels and abbot as well as two from saltire among others. the saltaire xmas beer was very nice and better kept than spoons beers usually are but the price has been increased and it was £2.45, the most i have seen for a spoons ale in the north of england, my local in Nottingham sells them at £1.99.
Good for a cheap pint but there are many quality establishments and better than this around with much better beer. one redeeming feature is it also sells some good raree beers such as blue moon on tap at a reasonable price compared to most pubs, i would return but purely for a cheap pint, nothing else.

A cavernous modern Spoons underneath a Travelodge, which I managed to take a ponderous route in order to find, going through the only part of York city centre that looked to be post-industrial wasteland. The interior is modern but does have a little charm, mainly in the conservatory area. Apparently the terrace looks out onto the River Ouse – would have gone there had I known! A bit ropey on the beer front with a number of ales off but my Hop Studio Black IPA was in decent form. Place needed a good hoovering – either that or chimps tea party had taken place there over the breakfast hours.

The Postern Gate is a very large Wetherspoons below a Travelodge so expect the usual Spoon’s crowd as well as some tourists. The bar supports ten hand pumps and the usual drink and meal deals are available. Some of the pub is very dimly lit, but a glass lean-to does offer some natural light to half of the bar. There is some outside seating.

One of the locals in town described this Spoons as being similar to an airport departure lounge and unfortunately this was stuck in my head. The entrance area was a bit weird, as there was banquette style seating all facing to the entrance doors. So when you enter or leave you receive a good look at. The Thornbridge Lord Maples was worth the stage show.

A modern styled interior as described below. Alright as part of a crawl but York has many more characterful pubs including the nearby Phoenix Inn.
