During my recent stay at the Royal County Hotel I was offered a free drink voucher if I signed up to their members club, which was also free, so I took them up on the offer and used the voucher in the Cast Iron Bar where I had a Stella, it was this or some mainstream craft keg. There’s a mix of lounge furniture and tables around the bar area and beyond there are mostly high tables. BBC News was muted on one of the televisions and there was some very low music playing in the background. Out the back is a patio with seating. The service was polite, but I found this to be a characterless space akin to an empty conference room. I’m not sure I’ll get another free drink voucher now that I’m a fully signed up member that’s waiting to be bombarded with spam emails, so I don’t plan on returning to the bar, although I will say that the hotel accommodation was very good.

Marriott hotel bar - actually had Old Specked Hen but not on hand pump.

Over-priced and over-rated. It used to be a four star but has slowly become a poor three star!
