David Walton left this review about British Hotel

Visited 04/06/26. Visited previously 22/02/18.

Typical cask line-up in this Okells venue of Best, MPA and 1907. Likewise typical keg lineup of Guinness, Orchard Isle cider, Falcon lager, Nectar NEIPA, Snaafel pilsner, Madri, Carling.

Prominent venue on the quayside. C-shaped and bare boarded with the bar counter along the rear wall with a tile skirt and tall stool seating at the sides and the ends of the front. Left-hand side had some large tables with regular chairs in the floorspace and some banquettes in the corners, the walls being wood panelled and painted a rather dull sage green. There is a fire grate on the left-hand wall and an upright piano to the side of it. The right-hand side is smaller, and the tall tables are more geared for drinkers with a couple of fabric banquettes in the front windows. A large screen on the left-hand wall was showing recorded TT action absent sound from a prior year. There was a music soundtrack on that was so faint it was impossible to even distinguish it above the chatter of patrons in the venue. Trestle table and benches out the front with a stage set up for live music in the evenings during TT, plus some regular picnic benches.

Blue Scrumpy left this review about British Hotel

The British Hotel is quite an attractive building on the quayside in Douglas. However, inside it lacks atmosphere. Perhaps this was due to a general lack of customers on a Saturday afternoon. The only other customers we saw were a young couple with their baby. The last time I was here it was the final pub of 16 and I visited on a Saturday night. I have to say I don't recall it! Although it was almost 10 years ago.

There are 8 handpulls on the long bar and the pub features in the 2025 Good Beer Guide. However, just 2 cask ales from Okell's were on - Bitter & MPA. I opted for a can of their new craft beer range, which wasn't up to much.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about British Hotel

Heron & Brearley pub with a Tudor-style facade that somehow seems reminiscent of a British Legion club, but having a thoroughly-refurbished interior in a rather sterile semi-modern style. Embassy function room upstairs (not visited). Okell's MPA (£2.93), Bitter and Steam available from two banks of four handpumps. Gin also a speciality.

Peter Rydings left this review about British Hotel

This was once the best pub in the I O M years ago went in through the front door there was a couple of steps to the left in the middle and it was all done in royal blue had to be dressed up to go in there then the lounge bar and at the other side of the bar was the vault. They spoilt this pub in the late 80s when knocking it all through and tried to turn it into a theym pub like on the main land
