The Kings Arms is a wonderful imposing old beamed building on the High Street of Amersham Old town. Dating from the 15th century this former coaching inn performs both functions of being a 34 bedroom hotel and a high street pub. The hotel entrance and restaurant is in the part of the building to the right of the central archway and then the characterful bar, with its old beams and period features, has its own entrance on the left of the archway. Apparently various parts of the building have been utilised extensively in TV and Film productions such as Four Weddings and a Funeral, Miss Marple and the TV series Midsomer Murders and you can see why when visiting the bar. And another plus was that the Kings Arms had the most interesting beer selection to be found on my crawl around the remaining establishments function as pubs in the Old Town. There are three ale pumps on the small serving area and these were Brakspear Bitter, Adnams Topaz Gold and the Rebellion Brewery monthly brew for September for my visit, and I enjoyed a couple of well kept halves of the latter two whilst enjoying the sun in the outside patio and garden area.
I cannot pass judgement on how this place functions as a hotel or restaurant and as usual a look at Trip Advisor is recommended for that. But for a place with plenty of olde-worlde charm to accompany your pint, the Kings Arms comes highly recommended.
