A corner pub right on the main crossroads in Malton. A traditional working class local much as Graham describes although the disco crap had gone and you could throw darts if you wished. Mid afternoon visit and it was definitely a meeting of the Darby and Joan club; not many under sixties in. Wainwright and Doombar on cask, the Doombar was a sickly sweet mess and not in good nick, NBSS 2 as it wasn’t off. Two T-Bars of low end kegs. it has cream decor with old photos and jokey slogans on some of the lintels where walls have gone. I spotted two screens; one on sport and one on a rather more popular music channel as it was showing hits from the 70s. There’s also a machine. There’s a lounge at the back with a pool table, darts and a gaming machine, also a beer garden. Oh yes boards, and tartan carpet as floor treatments.

A pretty basic locals' pub, populated by some pretty basic locals. There is one room with a strange flooring layout, I think intended to give a darts oche but it was occupied by a heap of disco equipment. The decor is also pretty basic, although down one end is a slightly cosier area round a disused fireplace. Having said all that, there is a certain basic charm to the place. Cask ales on were just Wainwright and Doom Bar, and condition was good. The fairly basic food looked to be good value.
