Nice pub on the main drag through Hay-on-Wye. First visit to this one and generally not been in Hay for quite a few years after once being a frequent visitor. Central bar with dining area, blocked off on my visit, off to left hand side as you enter off the main road. Plenary of seating around the bar and some stools at the bar. Didn't notice the Latin scrawls on the walls, but the rest pretty much unchanged from Soup Dragon's review of almost 15 years ago. Would imagine the same will be said when someone review in another 15 years!

There were four beers on hand pump and all the same as Delboy's visit of a bit over a year ago. I had a pint of the Sharp's Sea Fury for a gentle start to a rapid-fire quaffing session whilst my better half visited some of the shops on the high street! Keg choices were Peroni, Guinness, Stowford Press, Pravha and Chieftain IPA. The keg beers were largely duplicated on the other side of the bar but there was another cider that I didn't note.

Pub was quiet on my late afternoon visit but noted it was much busier later on as we passed on the way back to the car, with a lot of customer's dining. Thought this was a very pleasant pub that it definitely won't be my last visit to - touch wood!

Very pleasant.

Nice old pub with 4 ales on. Otter Bitter, Landlord, Doom Bar and Sharps Sea Fury. The 2 I had were OK but nothing special. Card only.

A stone built corner pub, with blue paintwork and climbing plants on the walls.

The interior was a pub of two halves; open pla, the one area was modern, in white, with arty pictures and had a dining area. The other was a more traditional kind of pub, with wood panel, beams, older historical pictures, nice fireplace, where the decor was red. There was a central wood bar. A few scattered Latin phrases on the walls may seem to give a bit of pedigree, but when one is slang Latin for 'don't let the b****ds grind you down' it sort of cheapens it. Service was hit and miss, the barmaids chatted to each other while serving me, but were around promptly to clean the table that i sat at. The clientele was mixed.

The beer; tap stuff, with Flowers Original, Timothy Taylor Landlord, Bass and Blue Boars own on handpull. I elected for the BB own, it was ok, nothing more - should have had the TT Landlord.

All in all, it was ok. I would visit it again, but the Kilverts, in my opinion, is the best
