Jumbo student venue. Enter to an upper area then down some steps to a Zeppelin hanger-esque barn, a high ceiling supported by oval cast iron girders. Décor-wise, there were bits of neon/dayglo to catch the eye in the atmospheric gloom. Many TVs with the football on, plus a pool table. No cask so a Wingman from keg to get the tick. It was alright for a student venue, I thought - whilst there was little to tempt a middle aged me back in, a teenage me would have likely approved.

The Loaded Dog is a thin and very long Scream pub aimed at the student population of the area. There is seating to the left and right of the entrance and a flight of stairs lead up, maybe to the toilets? At the foot of these stairs is a large television on a table faced by a sofa for those wishing to play Super Mario Kart. Through inflatable Guinness rugby posts steps lead down to the bar area and a long serving counter that runs along the right-hand wall. This faces high tables down the centre and standard furniture along to the left-hand wall. At the rear are two pool table and a dartboard. Lots of televisions are found throughout for showing all things sport. During a recent late midweek afternoon visit these were all muted in favour of some background music.
Premium and craft keg was available alongside Carling and only two of the six hand pumps were in operation drawing cider offerings from Lilley’s. The food menu consists mainly of pizza and burgers, the latter being priced at £10. Being a student pub this place isn’t aimed at me, but I didn’t think it was that bad for what it is.
