There's a fair number of pubs in Swinton. This one seemed to be the best of a very bad bunch, despite being a Greene King pub. At least it made a change from Holt's. Three cask ales were on - Greene King IPA, Morland Old Speckled Hen & Hardy & Hanson's Rocking Rudolph. There were a couple of other unclipped handpulls. Greene King Level Head was on keg. A CAMRA discount is apparently offered.
This Good Beer Guide pub has multiple rooms which have been opened out somewhat. Approaching from the car park at the rear of the building which was full of mothers waiting for their children from the school nextdoor, there are a couple of rooms off to the left of the entrance corridor and 2 more to the right. There is also an outdoor drinking area at the rear.
The largest room is one of those on the right-hand side. It seemed the most popular choice for customers and had bare boards and wallpaper. The smaller room on the right had much more character with wood panelling, carpet and bell pushes. However, there were still some lingering Christmas decorations in the windows, despite it being mid-January. Food is served. There were menus and condiments on each table. Children are also allowed in.

To the left of the central front entrance is a seating area and to the right is an L-shaped bar counter that runs along the front of the pub. This bar faces seating to the right and rear and centrally in the rear of the pub is a room with banquette seating. Televisions are found throughout for showing live football, a lower league game was muted during my visit in December. There was background music.
The bar supports standard and premium keg and the five hand pumps were drawing Greene King IPA, Beartown Brewery’s Lit, Brightside’s Brewdolph, Black Sheep’s Best and Spitting Feather’s Brainstorm. Food is also available, I had a bacon cheeseburger and a pint which came in at around £14. The service was very polite and the surroundings were comfortable so I’d return.
