A very nice, traditional country pub, with the friendly bar to the left as you enter, drinks offerings on our visit including Tom Wood’s Lincoln Gold and Black Sheep Bitter, with a third handpull unclipped. Most of the tables were reserved for diners, but people were drinking at the bar and we managed to pull up a stool for our brief visit. The menu looked very tasty, with main courses from around £9.50 and specials at around £15, and the pub as a whole felt very much geared to the well heeled of the area. There is a further room to the rear known as the ‘Ward Room’ which provides overflow dining space, with modern decor and probably lacking the pub atmosphere.
We liked this pub. I’m told the ale selection is usually better than on this visit. I’d happily come here again for a drink if in the area, and suspect it would be a very good place to eat on a special occasion.
