A largish corner pub/hotel with a main drinking bar and several different side rooms,in the main bar area there is some seating around the periphery, a pool table to one end, two dart boards at either end and a couple of tv screens with the olympics on during my visit.Four sticks on the bar, three were clipped up with one bare, all three were from Arkles, Wiltshire Gold ,Hoperation and 3B, unfortunately the first two went off in unison leaving only the 3B which proved to be standard fayre. It was OK here but nothing special.

A pleasing-looking rounded corner building abutting the junction. An Arkells house with three of theirs on; 3B, Wiltshire Gold and a pleasing sighting of Master Stout which was in good nick though it came through a sparkler (in an Arkell’s pub??). Two rooms, a small upper seating area with the bar on a lower level with pool, darts and sports TV. The place has recently been refurbished in a similar manner to the Bear in Marlborough which includes the epilepsy-inducing carpet. GBG 2014 listed. Compared to most of the other pubs in Whitchurch (Prince Regent excepted), this one was relatively good.

Fancy hotel selling Arkells Ales in reasonable condition plus a normal keg range. Décor in the bar is strange mix being a bit minimalist with pubby bits, clinical white walls with Britannia tables, stained glass and wainscotting plus the ubiquitous games and fruit machines, and loudish music. An odd smoky foody smell rather than the usual hotel food smell, the staff are fairly typical of hotel bars, efficient but not effusive. Mainly 20 and 30 somethings on the evening I visited.
