A Hydes pub opposite the bus station sitting in the V of two roads, obviously once a multi room establishment it’s now open plan and a bit confused. The main entrance is on the side off Water Street and leads through a vestibule to the main bar. The counter is ahead after you turn right, a nice carved affair with 7 pumps between two T-Bars. Beers are Hydes; Original, Hopster, Ruby Ale and Lowry, an Old Rosie on one and a guest from Bradfield plus one blank. I had an Original which was either on the turn or the pipe hadn’t been pulled through, I suspect only the latter. To the front are two smaller spaces with comfy seating and views of the street and bus station. There’s a fair amount of old carved wood and the furniture is a reasonable mix of high and low stuff with the odd leather armchair. It has an outside seating area with a road each side. Toilets upstairs and apparently it has pies for £3.50 a shot, on Mondays cask beers are 50p off with open mic and live music later. Friendly enough and decent staff. Camra discount although not signed in the pub. 1970s playlist on my visit.

Strongers . left this review about The White House

The White House is a Hydes pub with a central bare boarded bar area with a serving counter that runs across the rear wall. The bare board continues to the left past a dartboard and down to a sunken seating area where access can be gained to an AstroTurf beer garden with picnic tables. In the front windows to the right of the bar is a carpeted seating area that is split by a central dividing wall to create two small areas. There’s an old style jukebox, but not sure if it’s only for show because it was off whilst some background music played from another source. Satellite sports are advertised, but the televisions were off during my recent Tuesday evening visit. I counted seven hand pumps that were drawing what must be almost the full Hydes range alongside Westons Old Rosie cider. Premium keg was also available alongside Carlsberg, and a heated cabinet on the bar was displaying bar snacks which included a range of Potter’s Pies. It was quiet, but the few locals of mixed age at the bar generated a good atmosphere. I’d pop in again if passing.

Hydes pub. A knocked-through multi-roomer with some traditional touches but a bit of a mish-mash really. Live music advertised and no fat Yanks on the telly this time. From the bar, my Hydes Dark Ruby wasn't right (NBSS 1.5) and the barmaid inspired no confidence (she thought it wasn’t even pouring). Dumped it and left. Let-down.

I agree with BF below, as I also thought that this was a good solid boozer. We called in on a Friday afternoon and were met by a very friendly landlady. I went for the Bradfield Belgian Blue, which looked in a reasonable condition, until the landlady insisted that she would run down to the cellar and put on the next barrel. When she returned, she said that was on the house, which was a really nice gesture, as I hadn't waited that long for the beer. The other beers on pump were Adnams Mosiac, Beer Studio Lunar Glow, Everards Suffragette and as this is a Hydes pub, Hydes Lowry and Hydes Original. The prices were also good in here at £3.10 a pint.

Much better than I was expecting, this Hydes tied house is a solid boozer, essentially open plan, although with a front snug with good etched glass and an unused side door which hints at a previous layout.A wooden floor gives an alehouse vibe ,while the exterior terrace has plastic grass and traffic driving past on both sides. The flatscreen was on showing ITV 4 which was a major negative as it attracted everyones attention to a very shoddy piece of US white trash exploitation TV.God those Yanks are fat.
At the bar there were 6 handpumps and a real cider. The selection on my trip was Hydes Original and Lowry,Beer Studio (Hydes) Pale Williamette and Celsius with guests Ringwood Razorback and Bradfield Farmers Blonde. All the Hydes ales we sampled were in good nick, and for that alone this pub is worth a visit.Include it on any crawl around town.

The White House is one of two Hydes Brewery pubs in Stalybridge and probably the better of the two. It consists of an L shaped room with a wooden floor and on my visit a TV blaring out football plus a clientele who were all shouting at each other.
The bar has a set of three hand pumps with Hydes beers and a set of four which had a cider, Black Country Chain Ale, Spitfire Gold and a Beer Studio (aka Hydes) beer. I went for the Chain Ale (£2.95) which was in good nick.
This is a locals pub that was spoilt for me by the TV screens and the shouty punters.

Cosy, low ceilinged dark corner pub, various seating, lots of wood & brick features, neat & a fine pub serving 5 real ales including Hydes. The language was a bit colourful from the locals putting the world to rights.

ROB Camra left this review about The White House

Very large, one roomed pub with several distinct areas. An eclectic mix of furniture along with lots of dining tables & chairs. A long bar serves mainly Hydes beer, but they are also allowed a guest beer or two. They also serve a couple of real ciders. Live music features on Thursday & Friday. Friendly landlord and staff made for a pleasant 20 minutes waiting for a mate who is always late. We then stayed and had another. Both the beers I had were in very good nick. We were also given some free nuts & pretzels, which is a nice touch. It's quite rightly listed in the CAMRA GBG2014. A must visit if you're having a crawl round Stalybridge.
