A typical Timmy Taylor refurb trying to take the pub a bit more upmarket, but probably at the cost of some atmosphere. Very much in a 'drawing room' style, with lots of heavy gilt framed paintings. The back part seems to be more of an eating area, judging by the 'wait to seated' sign but the front two rooms are ok. Four TT ales on, still with a Saltaire guest.

Changed a bit from a few years ago, there is a poshish public bar type area to the right as before but redecorated in slightly more pretentious style, to the left is a mainly dining area, straight ahead the bar counter is pretty much unchanged being an L shape, then a large split level dining area. A collection of pulls face you with a fair range of Taylors beers, it is now one of their tied houses, and a guest – usually Saltaire Blonde. Probably the most expensive pub in Ripon the beer quality is average to good.

What a transformation this place is from a few years ago when we last called in nice food ok a bit pricey but you pay for what you get the TT landlord was to die for.

This has very much the feeling of a modern bar and eating establishment than a traditional boozer. Despite it's large airy feel and the early evening time of visit it had a gentle buzz and good atmosphere. Beer, as you might expect from a TT house, was excellent and the full range is offered. A great place for a top quality pint of Landlord.
UPDATE - April 2011
Little changed except the time of visit. Busy on a weekday lunchtime with drinkers and diners which seemed to make the staff immensely grumpy.
Landlord still in decent condition.

Five handpumps dispensing the full range of TT beers, the Landlord was expertly poured and was in great nick. The modern interior creates a bar vibe ,food is popular early evening and looked tasty.A good place for a decent pint.

A Timothy Taylor managed house, it usually has most of their range on, also Peroni, Amstel and Becks on draught plus a UK made lager and a fizzy cider. The latest renovation has worked better than the last one before Taylors took over. The unfeasibly high stools have gone replaced by modern but comfortable seating. Lighter wood and chrome decor in a large single space but with discrete areas including a raised area seemingly a dining space. Friendly and attentive staff. Busy with a mixed clientele including some children eating here this lunchtime when I called in for a much needed pint of Landlord. Popular with a younger age group in the evenings as it's almost next door to a night club.
