Great little multi level ale house, seven beers on, five pumps plus two on stillage featuring beers from Langhams and Oakleaf amongst others,my choice of local brewery, Urban Island 28 Porter was top notch.A pub to return to.
Note - doesn't open until 2pm on a Sunday.

A regular GBG pub, the Hole has a mixed reputation and I have previously had unsatisfactory experiences here. On this occasion, though, all was well. They were advertising a chili theme night, always a good idea in a real ale pub. The clientele were the older, more civilised drinkers, though I found the staff supercilious. They continue to stock a good selection of foreign and fruit beers, and there were 6 ales on this time around. My pint of Magic Rock Dark Arts was perfectly kept and was an excellent pint. One of Southsea's best pubs, this is a must for inclusion in a crawl and a good place to spend the evening.

If you do go here, or walk by, do look up at the sign, it has different views of 3 sailors going into the Hole in Wall, one from rear & one from front IYSWIM

A brilliant backstreet pub in Southsea that falls into the must visit catergory. Constantly changing variety of real ales that are well looked after. On my visit I had a pint of 'Easter bunnies' that was well conditioned.
The pub extends backwards but is fairly small; the bar area is on a raised section. It wasn't the most chilly of days but the fire was going and it was nice to see.
Whether you are coming to drink, eat or both, I can't imagine you'll be disappointed.

Update 11 Oct 2009 - Because it was the beer Festival the pub opened at 2PM, so I managed to try it out. As would be expected a wide choice of real ales, but due to demand it seems the thirsty folk had swallowed most of them, so I had a mild, which was very tasty, then I had a cider, which was even tastier
Pub is old style, varnished floor boards and quarry tiles, the tables are fairly close together so a wheelchair would have problems, plus steps
The publican is obviously a beer buff and takes very good care of his offerings, one for CAMRA and all who love their beers.
Fosters lager drinkers will be disappointed, as will any seeking pool tables, juke boxes, Sky TV etc. Which makes it an ideal place for the rest of us
Worth selling up and moving to Southsea, there are 3 great pubs within a 100 yards of each other
Limited opening times, no good for Saturday lunchtime for instance, check their web site for times

Brilliant little boozer offering a fine range of Oakham and Archers beers plus a knockout Ginger beer. Cracking local vibe to it. Great food as well, the suet puddings can very recommended. Top boozer...top locals.

Gem of a pub .visited here three times over the New Year period.
Split level bar,attractive victorian decor,candlelight tables,lovely atmosphere.
Sells 4 pint jugs of beer at reduced a reduced price until 9 o'clock.
Good range of real ales and bottled Belgian beers.
I had several pints of 'Hole Hearted' also the very strong 7.4% 'Blakes Heaven '.
Regular guest beers, wish it was in my home town!!
