Blue Scrumpy left this review about Chinnery's
After completing my exploration by bus of Southend's pubs and bars, I headed down to the seafront to try a few more hostelries. Chinnery's was a bit of a wildcard venue on my list. Known as Southend's best live music venue, the ground floor bar has a mixture of bare boards and cheap carpet. Music was playing and forthcoming gigs (held in a downstairs room) were publicised. With no event for my Monday visit, TVs were showing the Spain vs Cape Verde World Cup game without sound. Board games are available to play in one end of the pub. There is also outdoor seating available on the pavement.
It was the promise of cask ale that had lured me here. Three handpulls were clipped with a trio of Northern beers - Robinson's Trooper, Theakston XB & Old Mill Curiosity. I wouldn't normally expect to see Old Mill beers this far south and despite receiving a bit of a short measure from the barman, the Curiosity was a lovely old ale and my favourite beer of a day's drinking in Southend. Incidentally, ciders were keg only - Old Mout Pineapple and Raspberry, Berries and Cherries & Kiwi and Lime.
On a quiet Monday evening, this was a very enjoyable stop. I dare say I may find it slightly less enjoyable on a busy Summer Saturday evening with a gig on.

A seafront pub with loud music which had Adnams Ghost Ship as a real ale. More for the younger set.
