Strongers . left this review about The Sidewinder
The sidewinder is a long pub with a bar on the left hand wall and seating at the rear. There is a sofa at the front that faces a TV that was hooked up to an X Box, but nobody was playing it. There is a large beer garden out the back that includes some covered booths. There was an open mic night in progress when I visited on Tuesday evening last week and the singers were pretty good and appreciated by the large crowd of sensibly behaved students. Between the open mic acts there was some loud background music and I didn’t spot any plasma screens or sport advertisements.
The bar is stocked with premium and standard draught and two of the hand pumps were unused leaving Five Generations and Old Ale from W J Kings Brewery and Dark Star’s Festival as the cask options. Children are permitted during the day and I didn’t see any food advertised, but I’d be very surprised if the kitchen wasn’t open during the day.
I found the staff to be friendly and the locals were all harmless enough, but the crowd was a bit young and loud for my liking.
