E TA left this review about The Borough Arms
A large town pub in the middle of a housing area, this pub sits in its own grounds which include a car park at the front and a garden at the back, part paved, part lawned. The interior has been substantially refurbished in recent years, the main rooms being knocked into a single L-shaped bar. There is also a skittle alley, though we didn’t get the chance to go into it. There are 2 pool tables, a dart board, a large TV, gaming machines and a jukebox. In one corner is a small stage used for karaoke, discos and other entertainments, though when we visited it was occupied by a vintage motorcycle in showroom condition, apparently part of a fundraiser for a local lad. The flooring is a mix of timber floorboards and industrial carpet, and there are some of the original fireplaces still present. We were warmly greeted by the landlord, who was happy to chat to us, while the local who were present seemed friendly enough. Dogs and children were present, neither causing any trouble. There were 4 handpumps on the bar, 2 dispensing Bath Gem in average condition, the other two dry. Also on offer were Heineken, Amstel, Foster’s, Inch’s Cider, Moretti and Neck Oil. They offer food at some times, especially Sunday lunches. The atmosphere was convivial, though the banter and humour was robust and certainly not for the faint hearted. A decent enough local, OK for the odd pint if you’re in the area but not really a destination in its own right.
