Another Dales pub with a picturesque location, this one being below Buckden Pike. There are a couple of front rooms with stone floors. The bar is in the right-hand one. To the rear, the room gets bigger towards the left-hand side with bare floorboards. Most tables in this area were set out for dining but there was a secluded area for drinkers with a few Chesterfields near the toilets.

A couple of gents were manning the bar. They had 6 handpulls on the bar with 4 clipped. Timothy Taylor Landlord & Goose Eye Chinook Blonde are the regular beers. Guests were Saltaire Blonde & Wensleydale Gamekeeper. SALT Alpacalypse was on keg. The cider was Aspall's.

This was a pub that was much better than I had expected. The road here was very quiet and there didn't seem to be many people out and about. It seems they were all in here! Dogs and children are allowed. I can't say I was as impressed with this pub as the previous contributor but I did like its location.

Smashing pub. Theakstons and I would say the pint of the whole Inn Way - a weeks walking through the dales, stopping at 26 pubs over 6 days :-)

Lovely staff - great food - XB recommended.

Now reopened under new management after a fairly topsy-turvy recent history, the Buck is a welcome addition to Upper Wharfedale. A fine looking stone building, partly ivy-clad, there are two large rooms to the left on entering, with a corner of the bar available for serving. The main bar servery is in the public bar to the right, which has a slightly different character to the other rooms: more for locals than tourists, perhaps; certainly more for drinkers than diners. There was a fire burning in here, and at first we took our drinks to one of the other rooms as it wasn't a particularly cold night, but there were loudspeakers in there pumping out some dreadful 1970s Top of the Pops compilation, so we beat a hasty retreat and sat around the table in front of the fire: no music in here! Strangely, there's a double wrought iron gate which can be used to seal this room off from the remainder of the pub, though I can't imagine why it would be necessary.

On the bar are six hand pumps, two from Clarks of Wakefield - Classic Blonde and a house bitter; two from Theakstons - Old Peculier and Best Bitter; Timothy Taylor Landlord, and Copper Dragon Black Gold. The landlord described the latter to another customer as a chocolate stout, so I hope he wasn't too disappointed to find himself drinking a very nice dark mild. I've taken a point off for the music, but otherwise I would have no problem coming here again.

We arrived here on 18 August 2010 intending to stay the night, but discovered that it had, very recently, closed. Hopefully, this is a temporary measure, as there are no other pubs in the village and Buckden is a popular stop on both the "Dales Way" and the "Inn Way" footpaths.
