Blue Scrumpy left this review about The Red Lion

The Red Lion has very limited opening hours, open on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings and on Sunday afternoons. There is a stone floored front bar, with exposed stone walls too. Despite being a warm day outside, it was very cool (verging on cold) inside. There is a fireplace at one end, which is presumably lit for much of the year. There is also a dartboard above the fireplace and a large projector screen, presumably for big sporting events. However, with the Champions League final having just kicked off when we arrive, there was no coverage, just music playing.

The pub had a couple of cask ales - Alnwick Pale & Maxim Eclipse. I enjoyed my half of the latter and the landlord appeared to be a friendly guy, originally from the Midlands. Another couple did walk in just before we were leaving. Perhaps the pub gets much busier with locals later on. Despite a lack of atmosphere, I quite liked this place and thought it deserves its place in the Good Beer Guide. Apparently, a CAMRA discount is offered. Food is no longer served.
