Not much has changed since my review of more than a decade ago, except the emphasis on pies (mentioned in the previous review by the much missed Real Ale Ray), and the prolific house plants occupying every window cill. There are three cask beers on the four hand pumps today, Abbeydale Moonshine, Timothy Taylor Landlord and Black Sheep Best. I had a pint of the latter (NBSS 3.5, £4.70) and would have been happy to stay for another if it hadn't been for the rather annoying music and the thought of getting home along icy pavements. A younger person's pub, you might conclude. (I mentioned to the bar manager when I was being served that there was a drip from a gutter falling on the pavement outside the front door, and causing re-icing. She said she would see to it, and when I left 40 minutes later I was pleased to see that the pavement had been freshly gritted, so many thanks for that.)

This pub is locally known as the 'Notty'. We were in the Broomhill Tavern earlier in the day where we met one of the locals, who highly recommended a visit here, plus he had 2 takeaway pies, which he also said was a must.
I have to say the pies were the best I've tried in the country and we would go out of our way for a revisit. Two ales on handpump, so we went for the Landlord which was well kept, decent drop.

Formerly a Firkin home brew pub, the Nottingham House reverted to its former name a few years back. It has had a refurbishment, with parquet flooring and carpeted areas, mushroom and drab painted walls, and a smart wood panelled bar with hooks for your umbrella or handbag. The walls are devoid of further decoration - no pictures or individual touches, probably because the lease is being advertised so it is being run by a temporary manager.
On the bar are four hand pumps, only two serving ales: Landlord and Deuchars. Two pool tables and Indie-type music on the sound system, plus the proximity to the University's floodlit football pitches all provide clues as to the type of customers to be expected, and the football kits and bare legs on display certainly confirmed this thought when I was here.
