My visit to the Swinging Arms late on a recent Tuesday afternoon was about an hour and a half before a ticketed 7pm event was due to start, but there was no problem with me joining the handful of locals who had already assembled. This is very much a live rock music venue so there’s lots of music related bits and bobs on the wall, plus for some reason a tandem by the front left window where a pool table also resides. There’s a mix of banquette, sofa and high table seating along the front and up the right-hand wall to a stage in the right rear corner. The rear windows have some great views across the Mersey so I bet the bands love playing here. The serving counter, made from old pallets and manned by a friendly barman, runs up the left rear. The three hand pumps were unused so the draught options were premium keg, a couple from Camden Brewery and German Lagers. I went for half an Erdinger at £2.60. I enjoyed having a look around, but I’m not a live music fan so I’ll not be returning.

This is Birkenhead's rock pub. A mural of assorted famous band members on the walls and a metal statue of a guitarist. One roomer with a pool table to the left as you enter. There's a small stage to the rear and a couple of booths to the right. 4 handpumps on the bar with a Marstons beer and 3 guests. Sadly the first two I tried to order went as the barman was pulling them, so I ended up with a Brimstage Sandpiper by default, which was a good choice in the end. A friendly welcome and a jukebox playing a wide selection of music made this a pleasant place to while away half an hour. Live music several times a week, so don't expect it to be peaceful.

The pub is one large room with various seating sections and a pool table on the left of the entrance. The bar was over on the left as you enter, which was displaying four handpumps. I went for the Peerless Pale ale, which tasted awful, defo past its best. The barman did take a taste and went off down to the cellar. He told that it was on the end of the barrel and he was very apologetic. So I tried the Peerless Solid Gold, which was top notch. Music was playing on our Monday afternoon visit and the volume and choice of music was good.
The pub was comfortable and looked as though it had recently been refurbished. Lots to look at around the walls and has great views across the Mersey. Would call again, as the beer was good in the end and the customers were all friendly and laid back.

Decent pub. Has pictures of rock bands dotted around (Led Zeppelin, Rush, Iron Maiden that sort of thing).
