Strongers . left this review about Duke of York

The Duke of York has seating in the front right and a bar counter mid-way up the right-hand wall. There is a pool table and dartboard in the right rear and more seating runs up the left-hand side of the pub. Out the back is a large patio garden with picnic tables.
Premium and craft keg were available, and being a Robinsons pub the three hand pumps were drawing Dizzy Blonde, Cumbria Way and their Unicorn Brewing’s AMO. This place was OK, although I didn’t really see anything that elevates it above the many other Robbie’s pubs in Stockport.

Will Larter left this review about Duke of York

Despite the unpromising colour scheme (black bottom half, white top half), this was quite a nice hotel-type pub on the A6 when I visited in early December hoping for a drink of Old Tom. The central corridor opens out into a large lounge on the left, running the whole depth of the building, with a bar counter in a recess on the right, and - I had somehow missed - a smaller room on the right with a front window. The licensee was doing a complete line clean - at 1:30 Thursday afternoon? - so all his draught beers were off; however, he responded enthusiastically to my suggestion of bringing me a half of Old Tom from the cellar. It was in the correct glass, too! Not the best I've ever had, but it was what I had been looking for. I sat in the smaller front room after having had a look around the large lounge while he was in the cellar. The front room, perhaps not small enough to be called a snug, was comfortable but a little scruffy, with a fireplace with wood surround, copper hood and mantelpiece the focus of attention. I enjoyed my time here, with the exception of the background music, but then I often find myself typing something similar, especially when it is not just unnecessary but actually too loud.

ROB Camra left this review about Duke of York Hotel

A Robbies house that has had a recent refurbishment. The room to the left is painted a horrible grey colour and appears to have a dance floor area which is a bit tatty underfoot, but the bar area is nice enough. There's another area to the rear with a pool table. There's a small room to the right with nice copper fireplaces. It's very dog friendly as there is a water bowl set out for them. The toilets were very smelly and the beer wasn't a lot better with my Dizzy Blonde being just about OK. Loads of TV screens all around the pub. I really didn't take to this place at all. Apparently they have accommodation. but nothing could persuade me to stay here.

The Duke of York is a Robinsons tied house in the great moor area of Stockport.
I had a drink of Robinsons bitter.

Pub visited 9 March 1989.
