Passing through the area on the way to somewhere else, stumbled upon this nice little roadside pub, not quite in town but not in the middle of nowhere. Had a nice meal from a decent pub grub menu. Just the right side of shabby to be homely but not obviously part of a chain. They seem to put on a lot of evening events for locals. Would definitely use if it was near where I live. Support your local pub.

A typical country pub, food led as most now have to be to survive, basically one room that wraps around the central bar, carpeted throughout, various agricultural implements from the past are on display on the walls or suspended within various wooden frameworks.Four hand pumps all clipped up but a rather disappointing assemblage in my view of London Pride, Ringwood Best and 2 x Doom Bar. All the seating was set for dining but there were several high bar chairs for drinking purposes at the bar itself. Not really my ideal type of pub though.

Visited Sunday lunchtime, May 2013. Interior as described, bar area is opposite door as you enter

On entering we inquired about food, only to be asked if we had booked, no we had not, never knew one needed to

However the landlord quickly looked through his bookings and found us a space where diners not expected for another hour, full marks for that

Good choice of beers, and food, however my vegetarian companion was less impressed with vegetarian choices, tough luck I thought ;-)

I had the Sunday roast, companion had vegetarian option of same, but mistakenly thought it would be nut roast, it was not, it just had extra Yorkies & veg, hence the less than impressed. My ears are still ringing

Parking is available, may need to have a bit of a juggle but should find space

One other caution to add to Graham's, cash only, maybe regulars are OK, but we had to be cash upfront

Nicely furnished and well-kept pub in semi-rural setting, mainly aimed at the food trade but with proper pub-type meals rather than gastro. The bar area has a traditional sort of fairly cosy feel with lots of brick, dark wood and ornaments. The garden area is fitted with an interesting range of 'compartments' as well as a few tables. Small but useful range of ales and food was good. (June 2013 - still applies but one caution: not open all afternoon and on Sundays closes 16.00)
