Moby Duck left this review about Ye Olde Chequers Inn

An obviously aged building now knocked through a bit inside but still retains some old oak beams and woodwork for effect.
Just two cask beers on, these were a predictable Harveys Sussex Best and St Austell Tribute.

David Walton left this review about Ye Olde Chequers Inn

Visited 09/02/26. Visited previously 09/08/21.

Cask here was Harvey's Sussex Best and Tribute on each of two sets of hand pumps. Keg offering was Amstel, K1664, Fosters, Neck Oil, Guinness, Carling,

Really old venue. L shaped with the bar counter following the shape of the venue, all bare boarded with plenty of tall stool seating at the bar counter. Leather banquettes around the perimeter serving regular tables with small stools the other side thereof. There are a few regular tables and chairs over to the left most end of the venue near a log burner not burning logs on my visit. Dark beams, plenty of small, framed pictures of local scenes with a single TV showing early evening racing on my visit. There is an outside seating area at the rear but not in play on my visit.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Ye Olde Chequers Inn

Many years ago, this historic inn - with its noose hanging on the gibbet which doubles-up as the pub sign - used to be a dingy place selling so-so Courage beer. It's had a bit of refurbishment at some stage but retains a traditional (if slightly 'seen better days') look throughout the partially opened-out 'L'-shaped interior. Also has a small patio out back with a view of the castle. On this visit, I found the inevitable Harvey's and Tribute (£4.00) from two of the three handpumps, with the local Tonbridge Cobnut apparently coming on soon on the other.

Strongers . left this review about Ye Olde Chequers Inn

Ye Olde Chequers Inn has a tired L shaped interior with plasma screens throughout for showing Sky Sports. The bar supports 2 banks of three hand pumps, but unfortunately only Fuller’s London pride was available. During my early Friday evening visit the weekly karaoke was being set up. I also spotted an advertisement for the Sunday evening quiz from 20:30. I did not visit the advertised smoking patio.

Like the Man of Kent across the road this is run by Pendry’s Pubs Limited. Unlike the Man of Kent across the road I was given a friendly greeting and was made to feel welcome. This is probably not a pub that I will be revisiting anytime soon because it has seen better days and could do with a little money being spent on it.
