This pub is in the lovely village of Welton, right opposite the village green and in view of St Helen's church. I was a choir boy there many years ago.
The pub is steeped in history and is the place where the highwayman, Dick Turpin, was staying when he was flushed out by police. He jumped from a bedroom window onto his horse and managed to get as far as York before they caught up with him. He was tried and hanged.
I believe there was also an underground passage from the cellar here to a property in Brough but I have not had it confirmed.
