Blue Scrumpy left this review about Grey Bull

One of just two pubs left in Stanhope, the Grey Bull appears to be the best choice for cask ale. It was very busy on our late Saturday afternoon visit with plenty enjoying the sunshine on around a dozen picnic tables to the front and with others gathering inside for the Champions League final, this being the only we found showing the football (thanks to one of the greedy TV companies).

The front bar had a TV showing the football and a dartboard. A room to the rear seemed to double as a lounge and a games room, with a pool table and a games machine.

There are 3 handpulls on the bar. Beers on were Maxim Double Maxim, Sharp's Twin Coast & Vocation Heart & Soul. Ciders were Aspall's & Carling Black Fruits. At the end of the bar, you could buy a slice of quiche or a slice of Victoria Sponge cake. Certainly an unusual choice of bar snack but one guy purchased the last 4 portions of the quiche for his football viewing.

Service was friendly and quick, despite the good number of customers. A well-run pub, welcoming to all.

Recently taken over by a local community trust . A great deal of effort is being made to return the pub back to its rightful place as the heart of the west end in Stanhope. 3 real ales ,Guinness Marstons Smooth , Jennings Cumberland cream , Fosters , Stella Artois , Strongbow all on tap . Pool and Darts plus a small function room and a real open fire added to a warm welcome from staff and locals alike make this a great little country pub
