Will Larter left this review about The Chequers
Situated in a side road on the eastern side of this smallish village, the pub's inn sign is in the centre of the village with a helpful arrow pointing the way. It's a traditional building that seems to have been oppened out and the bar rearranged, though the brick fireplace to the left may be original. There are five hand pumps on the bar, with Landlord doubled, plus Woodforde's Wherry and Castle Rock Harvest Pale and a cider. My pint of Wherry was too cold for this style of beer (NBSS 2.5) and cost £4.80. I stayed in the bar area, where there are large, chunky wooden tables, some of them occupied by two people eating when a party of eight would have fit better. It was too busy to go exploring the rest of the pub, as people kept on turning up for dinner. No doubt the food is remarkable, and the atmosphere was pleasant enough, but the beer would not entice me back.
