Having been to the home of the Magic Dragon Brewery in Eyton, without finding any of their beers, I was hoping for better luck here.
Unlike most modern brewery taps, Magic Dragon have chosen a former pub for theirs. So unlike others, it does have the feel of a traditional pub. However, it was most definitely lacking atmosphere on my Wednesday afternoon visit. Apart from managing to beat another customer through the door, I couldn't decide immediately what I wanted, instead asking the young barmaid (most likely a local student) to serve the other guy first and then ordering the same as him. At least I knew that I wasn't having the first one off!
Four Magic Dragon beers were on. Eyton Gold is the regular beer. Additional options were Green One, Dolphin & Autumn Jester. My hope for a dark beer was thwarted, but the Green One was still a decent substitute. However, my choice had been complicated by the availability of a couple of ciders - Rosie's Wicked Wasp & Bad Boy Cherry Cider. A couple of craft beers from Magic Dragon were also available - Dr. G & Obsidian.
With just myself, the other customer and the barmaid, atmosphere was lacking. In many other towns and cities, pubs like this are suffering as a result of competition from Wetherspoon's, especially on pricing. However, that can't be said here. The pub has an offer of £2 a pint on a Sunday and the manager had apparently left the offer on the till 3 days later. Whether this was intentional or not, I'm not sure. If intentional, it really ought to be advertised more to draw a few more in. Either way, I enjoyed a very cheap half.
The best pub I've visited in Wrexham to date, but with scope for improvement.

As noted, this is a much needed real ale pub in Wrexham. Situated near the enormoTesco over the way this micro is all Magic Dragon with 5 of the 6 handpulls dispensing their own beer with one on this occasion used as a guest. 7 shiny taps for craft nonsense available too. Reasonably priced with the 2 halves I originally bought coming to £2.40. Sadly the beers I had weren't in great condition (it had only just opened so hopefully it was just that they weren't pulled through properly). That said it's worth a visit if you're unfortunate to be stranded in Wrexham.

The long closed Elephant & Castle, more recently used as Dio Siam and other restaurants, has reopened as the Magic Dragon Brewery Tap.
Being in an ex-pub, I expected a pub size venue, but it has opened as a one roomed micro pub complete with "micro" single flushable toilet.
The decor is fairly simple with two bare brick walls and a rustic fronted bar and paneling. The six handpumps all serve their own Magic Dragon beers. There are two Magic Dragon craft taps and four taps for commercial lagers.
A much needed venue to add to Wrexham's spartan town centre offerings.
Opening Hours-
Mon-Thu 16.00-23.00; Fri 16.00-Midnight; Sat 12.00-Midnight; Sun 12.00-23.00.
