An improvement on my last visit. The interior is a lot more comfortable than before and the colour scheme seems to be slightly better. Its set itself up as a 'bar and grill' place. There are 2 handpumps on the bar with only the one in use, dispensing Buzzard Brewery 'Pale Of Clwyd'. Its a L-shaped pub with sofas and armchairs to the rear. A courtyard is also to the rear looking out to Moel Famau (or however you spell it).

Dear oh dear. What a mess. A dark horrible place. Inside is painted a hideous dark purple/plum colour with wooden columns beams and white walls. A wooden floor guides you to the bar where you will find the usual fizz plus up to 2 cask ale. With the rather resplendent Wetherspoons next door maybe he's just give up. If 'the eyes of Ruthin' nave awoken then in this incarnation the sooner it is put into a coma the better. Which is a shame as the bloke who runs it os ok. Dire.

After a short closure, The Myddelton Arms reopened as a contempary modern Bar Restaurant with its new name "Myddelton on the Square". Though food is their main business, the beer drinker has not been forgotten with the introduction of Real Ales, usually from local Welsh micro breweries. It is good to see that "The Eyes of Ruthin" has awakened once more.

Just a few months after my February review the "Eyes of Ruthin" has sadly closed it's eyes, hopefully not for the last time. It is now up for sale. With it's prime site and famous exterior, this must be a great oportunity for someone to compete with the Wetherspoons Castle Hotel next door bringing more people into this attractive town centre square.

The Myddelton Arms, set in the picturesque St Peters Square in Ruthin, is a tourist attraction in its own right for the seven dormer windows in it's roof, known as 'The Eyes of Ruthin'.
The pub itself is rather disappointing inside being rather plain and uninteresting. No Real Ales are served in spite of the signboard stating 'Traditional Ales'. Being next door to the, now, Wetherspoons Castle Hotel, it might have to try a little harder on it's beer choices.
I score 4 for the pub + 1 for the exterior!
