Just off the main road on the way to Tesco, this place has had a serious amount of cash thrown at it recently (oil money?). It's a modern hotel with a large bar over two rooms. Exposed modern brick walls, carpet, comfy tub chairs and that sort of thing. Items of note are the pretty stained glass seating dividers, green decorative floor to ceiling iron columns and the awful MOR wailing rattling out of a busted speaker (think Deacon Blue would have been more appropriate). Another keg-only bar with few options so I went for a Caledonia Best at 2 quid a half, too late did I spot the bottles in the fridge from Lerwick and Valhalla. You wouldn't walk out of town for this one but it was a little better than I expected.

At £3.50 for a pint of Tennent’s lager, this is even more expensive than the other pubs in this pricey town. McEwan’s Export, Caledonia Best and Stella Artois are also available on draught and there is an impressive range of whiskies on the gantry. As a hotel bar, it seems to cater mainly for the residents, but gets some custom from the surrounding housing estates as there are no other pubs in the immediate area. The bar is triangular shaped, with dim lighting, exposed brick walls, dark red armchair seating and situated between the entrance foyer and the restaurant, meaning that it’s often the venue for pre-dinner drinks. There are excellent waterfront views from the restaurant and bedrooms, but the bar is unfortunately windowless. It’s decent enough, but there are several better options ten minutes walk away in the town centre.
