Hotel which has a basic bar with quite a few rugby shirts on the walls. One end is carpeted and is favoured by diners. Both ends have TVs and fireplaces but all were off on my Wednesday evening visit. Background music was playing.

As one of three Melrose pubs in the Good Beer Guide, this one has the best selection of cask ales in the town. Tempest Armadillo is a regular beer. Guests were Tempest Youtopia & Loch Lomond Bonnie & Blonde & Lost In Mosaic. Belhaven Best was available on keg, along with Thatcher's Gold & the 3 fruity ciders from Thatcher's. Cocktails are also available, with menus on all tables.

I had booked the hotel for the night. So after checking in, I quickly tried the Youtopia, a very enjoyable beer, before returning later to try two of the others before the young lady in charge closed shop with nobody else in.

Rooms were basic but adequate for what I needed and breakfast is an extra if you fancy it. There is an outdoor courtyard area and a car park for guests at the rear. Food is also served throughout the day.
